R3 Phase 2 Day 21

Weight 147.0

Down 1.4.  I'm still holding my breath until the scale tomorrow morning before I pass judgement on my nutty steak day.  So far so good though.  Really who knows in the end if I would have had the drop regardless or if I would have dropped more.

Family Sunday today.  It's so great being able to actually cook a meal for more than just myself in P2 on a Sunday.  Until this round, I've literally cooked two meals each time.  One I could eat and one I could watch others enjoy.

By the way, I tried the Costco Kirkland Frozen Tilapia Loins tonight.  I've been eating the Kirkland Wild Alaskan Cod and found them to be very steady as far as taste, etc.  Typically tilapia tastes a bit fishier to me.  These fillets run about 135 g each when thawed.  Since fish is a lower calorie protein I usually do more than 100 g.  I dry pan fried them in spicy seasonings.  They are what I'd call bronzed not blackened.  They were delicious. Although I went to heavy with the Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning and it was very salt.  Next time I'll switch to Old Bay Low Sodium instead.

Breakfast and throughout the day
Coffee and water

Lunch - (153 calories)

100 g beef bottom round roast

R3 Phase 2 Day 20

Weight 148.4

Down 0.2. In the last 5 days, I've dropped a whopping 0.4.  I know it's normal, but all the appropriate self-talk hasn't made it easier to swallow.  So it's a very very rogue day for me today.  If it comes back to bite me so be it.  If not.. then I'll consider myself lucky.

R3 Phase 2 Day 19

Weight 148.6

I've lost this 0.4 before.

The doc visit went great. First he couldn't get his nurse out of the exam room because she was so curious about the diet (she is likely going to call me later). Then he went through my 'stock market crash' weight graph. BP 102/70, pulse 92, but it's always up when I'm there.

He switched my cholesterol med, Vytorin to Zocor. Vytorin is a combo med, ezetimibe and simvastatin, and Zocor is just the simvastatin. Will do a new lipid panel in May before I go back. If it's okay, then he'll likely drop the Zocor and just monitor.

The Micardis (for BP) he likes because it also supports the kidneys. My BP has been normal and below normal for a while and even though I am considered to be in 'remission' with my diabetes and have been for years (A1C is 5.1), he still likes the Micardis. He did agree to drop me back from 80mg a day to 40mg and we'll see what it looks like in May.

Then he wanted to know about the diet. He's heard about it but hasn't really delved into it. Asked me what I was taking and how much and who through. When I told him from online and it's from India, he said that heck.. anymore most of what they have to majorly control here people can get anyway. He used testosterone as an example. They have to jump through hoops prescribing and controlling it, but the same person can turn around and get it from overseas sources via the internet.

My doc may be older and near retirement but he's always been on the progressive side in my eyes. He's as thin as a rail but deals constantly with people with weight issues and comorbidities because of weight.

B12 is fine as are all the thyroid tests. He now understands why I wanted them though.

Also.. I had dropped my height to 5'5" after checking it at home recently. I used to think I was 5.6", then 5'5.5".. I just chalked it up to aging. He told me I was 5'5.5" so I checked again when I got home.. sure enough. I've not been giving myself credit for half an inch.

Batch-cooked 9 portions of 96/4 ground beef mixed with diced jalapenos, Goya Adoyo seasoning with cumin, chili powder, minced dried onion, and garlic powder tonight.  I even pulled out my Cuisinart Griddler grill to do them on instead of pan-frying.

R3 Phase 2 Day 16

Weight - 148.8

So.. I'm not sneaking into the 140s or a normal BMI.  I am planting myself firmly.

For once in my life I can say I'm normal at something..lol. Hunger is controlled. I've done 175iu for the last 3 mornings. I was hungry about 1pm for lunch, but usually dinner time I'm not bad at all.

Everything from here on out is gravy.. and it's all been uncharted territory for me since I hit 158. I'd only been below 170 for a few months back in 2006..the rest of my life I've been overweight, obese, and morbidly obese. I see my doctor in Friday for a regular checkup (haven't had one since August when I weighed around 190 lbs). I'm going to convince him to take me off these 'maintenance meds' of vytorin and micardis. Way back I needed them, now I don't, but he's one of these that "Well they don't hurt and can provide some benefit." Not to my pocket.

My DIL, her friend, and my son are on the same day I am. They have all three lost 18 lbs. Amazingly they've each only had 1 day of no loss and one day of a .4 gain. The rest has been drops, each day.

I love HCG!

R3 Phase 2 Day 14

Weight - 150.4

No change at all today.  Did a detox bath last night, but that only serves to get rid of a bit of water that comes right back.  It definitely feels good though.

Sunday family dinner today and it's so nice being able to prepare a P2 meal that the entire family will eat.  I made my egg drop soup.    I'm also really enjoying the jalapeno turkey patties I made yesterday.  Today I heated it and crumbled it with a small amount of baby spinach, onion, dill relish and roma tomato.  Ate it like a small salad.

R3 Phase 2 Day 13

Weight 150.4

After 4.6 lbs in the last three days, finally a slow down to .4.  It was bound to happen.

Quiet Saturday at home.  Sunny, very windy and cold outside.

Don't beat me up but I mixed some veggies today at lunch and ya know.. I'll likely do it again.  I made these bomb jalapeno turkey burgers and just had to have the trimmings to go along with them.  Not a lot of anything, just small amounts.

R3 Phase 2 Day 12

Weight - 150.8

Down another 1.4 lbs today.  A girl could get used to this.  I'm really taken aback at my loses this week.  It's week two which is notorious for being slow.  Perhaps finally getting the rx dosing right has made this occur.

I was a bit hungry late last night and throughout the wee hours.  I up'd my dose to 170iu this morning.

Very very busy afternoon.  Batch day for the next couple of weeks for four people.  30 servings of beef bottom round roast, 50 servings of baked chicken breast.  Ground beef, ground turkey, shrimp (not for me this time), fish and all the veggies and fruits needed.   There will still need to be restocking of a few things that spoil more quickly.  I can't believe that people actually portion out and cook 100 grams of chicken at a time.  It's so much easier to precook in batches and have it ready.  Why cooked 20 times what you can cook once?

Breakfast and throughout the day
Coffee, tea, water

Lunch - (238 calories)
**P2 Chili
100 g 96/4 ground beef
1 can no salt added diced tomatoes

R3 Phase 2 Day 11

Weight 152.0

Whoohoo.. 1.4 this morning.  Total of 10.6 pounds in 10 days.  I'd love for week two to be better than the previous two rounds.  Once can dream.

Planning a big shopping/batch cooking /portioning session for Friday.  I went today for a couple of beef bottom round roasts to put in the crockpot overnight.  They'll be fall-apart tender in the morning.  What I bought will make 29 portions.  It freezes well once cooked and is great in soups and stirfries.  Tomorrow will be Costco, Walmart, and wherever else we need to stop.  Cooking chicken again and portioning out ground beef, fish, and ground turkey as well as dividing up the bulk veggies and fruits between the 4 of us.

I found a new tea today that I really like  Good Earth Pomegranate Superfruit.  It is a mixture of green tea antioxidants with pomegranate and acerola cherry antioxidants.   Took a nice hot detox bath tonight with epsom salts and ginger as I was out of baking soda.  I always recording my evening weight and it's only up .8 from this morning.  Perhaps a foreshadowing of a good weight-in tomorrow.

I was not very hungry today at all.  I didn't eat lunch until I got back from some errands at almost 4pm.  Fourth day in a row for 162.5iu.  I mixed a new batch that I'll start on tomorrow.

I haven't made sea bass at home.  It was okay, but I think I'll stick to cod and halibut.

Afternoon snack - (78 calories)
150 g red delicious apple
2 tbsp Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar

Dinner - (182  calories)

R3 Phase 2 Day 10

Weight - 153.6

Down 1.8 after being up .6 yesterday do to lack of output.  Did not have that issue today.  So 9.2 lbs in 9 days.  That is exactly where I was at the same point in round 2.  Hunger isn't bad today.  A bit this morning before my dose and some this evening, but it's likely because the furtherest out in my body was the skip day (72 hours back).  I'll do 162.5 again tomorrow and see how things feel.

I ate bok choy for lunch today.  Not for the heck of it, but because I didn't want it to go to waste.  Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite me.  It is part of the cabbage family.

R3 Phase 2 Day 9

Weight - 155.2

Up just a bit, but that's not been unusual for me in week two of previous rounds.  Also there was no output overnight which IS unusual for me.

The raging beast that has been my stomach the past week has finally been appeased.  Injected 162.5iu for the second morning.  Since about 9pm last night I've had hunger only at mealtime and then it has been mild.

With the recent news article about produces prices going through the roof for the next couple of months, I'm wondering what will happen with some of the veggies I love in this protocol.   Tomatoes for my dinner veggie tonight.  Not something I've done yet this round.  I figured since I've been skipping one fruit a day, the sugars shouldn't come back to bite me.

Breakfast and throughout the day

R3 Phase 2 Day 6

Weight - 156.4

Down  0.4. At least it's down and not up.  Getting pretty bummed with this hunger thing.  Dosed at 180iu last night in hopes that the small increased would help the nighttime hunger.  It hasn't.  Third day in a row that I'm mostly fine until about 5 or 6pm and then the gnawing feeling starts.  Almost to the point of being painful.  Eating doesn't relieve it.  I was just as hungry, if not more hungry after eating dinner.

I switched my son to the pellets I have previously used today to see if that helps his slow losses at all.  Also purchased some homeopathic thyroid support on a whim to see if it helps also.

R3 Phase 2 Day 5

Weight - 156.8

Down 1.4 for a total of 5.8 lbs in 4 days.

Took a detox bath last night.  I know that it's temporary water weight that's lost and it's usually back by morning.  I just enjoy relaxing for 20 minutes and lounging bundled up in sweats for 30 minutes afterward.

On the dosage topic.  I took 175iu at midnight.  Felt a bit lightheaded an hour later. Not pass out kinda lightheaded. It was almost a floating sensation.  Slept well through the night, again.  Had a small amount of hunger before lunch at 1pm.  Then between 4 and 5 I noticed it again.  Similar to last night, I was vaguely hungry until dinner time.  I ate a fairly bulky dinner that included extra protein. Finished it about 7:45 and I've not really been hungry since.  I'm trying to decided to bump to 180iu tonight and see if that wipes all the hunger out or to leave it for another day.

Since I did extra protein today, I did not have fruit at all.  Didn't really need the snacks.  I like to fill up on protein and veggies whenever possible.  I also test my urine for ketones with ketostix.  On Wednesday there was none.  On Thursday, it was a trace.  Today it's been high.  Some people never go into ketosis on the hcg diet.  I seem to and if/when the losses are slow or non-existant, it's comforting to see the deep red color on the stix.

Of the people local to me who are all on day 5 of their first rounds: their 4 day losses range from 7 lbs to 12 lbs.  I'm bringing up the rear.

R3 Phase 2 Day 4

Weight - 158.2

Down a pound for 4.4 total in 3 days.

Now here is the novel about my last 24 hours.

I was going absolutely bonkers last night between 11 and midnight.  The night
had gotten progressively worse.  No relief from eating a bulky dinner or an apple later
on.  Stomach was just one constant growl to the point I was nauseous. I typically have a high
tolerance for things, but yesterday had just proven too much.

At midnight, I finally caved and rather than eat figured I'd take a dive.  I
injected 200iu figuring if I had been too low I was even lower at that point and that if it were the
case it should help boost the levels quickly and I'd go for 175iu tonight.  If it was actually too
high and I was overreacting then I'd see no relief at all and would pay for it with another
skip day or two so that the levels would drop again.

Within an hour of injection my hunger seemed to subside.  I was able to sleep
through the night without waking except for a bathroom trip.  The night before my stomach
had growled all night.  I didn't even feel the need for lunch until about 2 pm.  At about 5, I began noticing some rumbles here and there.  They are more prevalent now than they were earlier.  I'm certain after dosing at 175iu tonight at midnight and keeping that level for a few days, things should even out.

Breakfast and throughout the day
Coffee and cherry koolaid

Need to eat a fruit tonight maybe

R3 Phase 2 Day 3

Down 1.8 this morning.  Just a bit over my loading weight and still higher than my lowest ever weight.  Still dealing with hunger.  I skipped my dose today.  It seems as the evening goes on I'm getting a bit better.  The telling will be in the morning I guess.  Then I'll have to decide to go up or down (likely down) and how much.

My son was not as hungry today so perhaps the increase in his drops dose is working for him.

R3 Phase 2 Day 2

Weight - 160.0

Well  1.6 in day one.  I guess I was spoiled with my previous two rounds losses of 3.4 and 3.0.  Hope this isn't foreshadowing of things to come.

I've been increasingly hungry today.  I may be on too high a dose.  In order to find out, I'm going to skip tomorrow's dose.  If I am to high, as the day progresses my hunger level should go down.  Then I'll do a lower dose on Thursday.  My son is very hungry also so I'm having him increase his drops from 10 to 12 three times a day.  My daughter-in-law and her friend are both doing well at 10 drops.  My DIL dropped 5.6 lbs in her first day.

By the way, of the list below, the ground turkey, baby spinach, no salt seasoning, apple, filet, cabbage, and strawberries all came from Costco.  Love having more than one person to share the bulk food pricing with.

R3 Phase 2 Day 1

Weight - 162.6

Rolling up my sleeves.  Let's do this!

My gain during loading was 3.2 lbs total.  Second of three shots that ended up in a blood vessel, even though this time I pulled back the plunger and got air before injecting.  I must have moved the needle further in after testing.

I was a bit hungry in the wee hours of the morning.  About an hour after lunch, my stomach was talking to me, but I think it was more digestion.  I was definitely hungry at dinner time which is fine.  If things stay as they were today I'm good.  Because of all the dosing/hunger issues recently seen on the HCGDietInfo Forum I'm really being mindful of my hunger level.  I've heard of some people that have constant 'gnaw your arm off' hunger.  Typically their dose of pharma-grade hcg is too high and needs to be backed down.

Breakfast
Coffee

Lunch - (228 calories)
*P2 Beef & Onion Soup
100 g 96/4 ground beef, sauted
200 g onion, sauted

This has been one long long weekend.  I am exhausted and sure hope I can get some sleep tonight.  I have eaten so much the past few days that my stomach looks like I have a 'food baby' and it hurts because it's tight.

R3 Phase 1 Loading Day 1

Weight - 159.4

What a long and exhausting day and then to have to load on top of that.  It's after midnight and I'm still at it.

I prepped and injected 150iu of Hucog hcg at about 10 am this morning.  Myself, my DIL and a friend (both also starting today) had mani/pedi appointments from 1 til 3pm.  We then finished a bit of shopping for the diet and came home to cook, portion out foods, etc.  We managed to get 34 portions of chicken breast, 8 portions of steak, 20 of ground beef, 28 of lean ground turkey (I prefer it to ground chicken) all done and ready to go. We precooked the chicken and steak, but just portioned out the ground meats.  Out of 14 meals for this coming week, 7 will be chicken , 2 will be steak, and then they can decided on using ground beef or turkey or fish for the other 5.

They worked at splitting up veggies, fruits, seasonings, etc between two of them and leaving half for myself and my son (who is also starting today).  There's an awful lot of produce around my house the past few days and most of it bulk from Costco.  On Friday we purchased two large bags of apples, 2 bags of clementine oranges, 3 lbs of strawberries,  chicken, ground turkey, filet mignon, frozen cod, as well as some bulk seasonings.  I was surprised at the number of seasonings they have that are P2 compliant.  Their Kirkland brand No Salt Seasoning, Ground Garlic, and Minced Onion as well as some Italian seasoning.  They also had 8 packs of Pacific Natural Foods Chicken stock that contains no sugars or starches.  I bought Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails formula that contains 5000mcg of Biotin.  I used biotin in my last round and felt it made a big difference with hair loss.  Their B-100 complex is compliant also.

Oh and on top of all this, dinner out at a pizza place and trying to get in a lot of fats.  I did pretty well I think although my appetite the end of this week has been lacking.

Breakfast - (578 calories)
**Veggie Frittata with blue cheese
2 eggs  (1 for extra fat)
1/2 c eggbeaters
60 g each of onion, mushrooms, bell pepper
2 tsp minced garlic

R2 Phase 4 Day 21

Weight - 159.0

Last actual day of P4 (even though P4 is any day that you aren't in P2 or P3) and my weight is exactly what it was 44 days ago when I took my last dose of hcg.  Not bad for an old gal.

Did not sleep well last night.  A lot of thinking about this upcoming round and the others starting at the same time.  Then when I did fall asleep early morning I ended up sleeping longer than I'd planned.  Had to go for bloodwork today so it's done before starting the low calorie phase next week, even though I don't see the doc until the end of the month.

Preheat broiler.  In a small saucepan with an oven safe handle melt 1 tbsp butter, add garlic. Start butter & garlic just browning, then add preferred amount of tamari, onions and mushrooms.  Saute until tender, then add  leftover protein, thinly sliced.   Add 3 eggs or 1 egg and 1/2 cup eggbeaters. Turn heat down to medium low and cook without stirring several minutes until outer edges of egg mixture is set. Transfer to broiler and cook until middle is set. Top with feta.

Round 3 Preparations For Loading

I wrote this to the three people starting hcg for the first time this weekend with me as I enter my third round.

The two days of loading before beginning the very low calorie diet with hcg are meant to provide your body with fats for transitioning in the first few days. Loading properly will help with hunger while the hcg is kicking into overdrive.

You start the morning of your first loading day with your weight and your first dose of drops or injection. If on drops, space them out evenly throughout the day. They don't have to be at the same exact time each day, but someone near helps.

Load with good healthy fats and some carbs as well as things you will miss while on the diet. You don't have to stuff yourself to oblivion though. Use full fat items that you might usually use fat free versions like mayo, cream cheese, cheeses, sour cream, ice cream, yogurt etc. Use real butter, olive oil, canola oil, for cooking etc. Choose full fat oil-based salad dressings. Avocados, walnuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, olives, peanut butter, eggs, bacon, fatty cuts of meats, fried foods, cream sauces, etc are all good choices for loading too. You don't have to eat all these things, but do go a bit overboard. Don't stuff yourself too much with sugars, although enjoy that cheesecake or chocolate cake, etc.. but just do it as a compliment to all the healthy fats. Sugars in excess can make you crave more in the first few days.

Get in 2 or 3 meals and a few fat-loaded snacks. Don't worry about the gain, it comes right back off in the first few days.

Don't by a ton of these type groceries because you'll see them in the house and want them or will have to toss them or give them away.

I've ended up with alot of cheese in the house from being on maintenance. Sunday being Superbowl.. I'm cutting all of it up and leaving it out for people to snack on. Dinner Sunday night is going to be eggs (with cheese) and bacon.

Once you start this diet you need to follow it through to at least 30 days.. 2 days of loading with the hcg drops, 28 days of low calorie diet (500 calories a day from the Pounds and Inches Protocol) while taking the drops, and 48 hours (if using homeopathic hcg) or 72 hours (if using rx grade hcg) of the low calorie diet without the drops at the end before moving to Phase 3, the first 21 days of maintenance. Stopping somewhere in between can really do more damage than good and likely cause you to gain the weight back. Following through, you'll be amazed at the rapid results, and at how you can eat a normal amount of calories in maintenance and maintain your weight.  Yes I know that protocol talks about 23 days or 40 days, but it's recently becoming evident that people stabilize better if they have done at least 30 days of hcg before ending a round.  You can go longer.
